“BlackBox“ is the result of a competition which takes place every five years and is run by Stylus, the Dutch student association and advertised to archi-tectural students of the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands as a competition project. The aim of the competition is the erection of a new show pavilion. „BlackBox“, a unique building, emerged from over 60 design proposals after much design work and intensive development planning. The materials used were financed entirely by sponsorship. The opening cere-mony took place at the end of June in the presence of both sponsors and students.
In just 25 years, Solarlux has turned an idea into a brand – and a global term for quality, innovation and solution-driven expertise. It all started with just one simple idea: windows and doors that use a fold-ing mechanism to open up the indoor space and create a completely open plan living/garden area. These patented systems offer excep-tional flexibility and enable a variety of opening configurations for exclusive apartments, pool glazings, sophisticated business premises and shop fronts.
If you are aiming for a design which is aesthetically pleasing and varied as well as top in quality engineering and materials, then developers, contractors and architects are coming to Solarlux for their wintergarden roof systems. During the BAU 2007 exhibition in Munich, Solarlux´s innovators from Bissendorf in Germany have demonstrated to the industry for the first time their exclusive roofing system called SDL Nobiles (taken from the Latin, meaning noble). What its designers had in mind was the realisation of a completely new concept which would satisfy the highest standards.
Solarlux´s leading position in the market for high-quality folding façades and wintergardens has been created by continuously applying the benchmarks of overall clean lines, high quality and uncompromising standards, as well as user friendly innovations. It is therefore not surprising that this German company has made an impact at the BAU 2007 exhibition in Munich with the new glasshouse concept.
It was more than product innovation and technical highlights which were on offer to the professional visitor at the Solarlux stand at the BAU 2007 exhibition. For the first time, the leading system developer and manufacturer of folding façades, wintergardens and balcony glaz-ing presented to the industry its new brand image. It is an important element of the company´s new and global market strategy, and the outcome and fruit of an intensive brand strategy orientation exercise.
From humble beginnings in a garage to a worldwide enterprise
It all started in 1983 in a small garage workshop with the idea that windows and doors could not only be turned, tilted and slid but also folded back and stacked away with the added benefit of saving space. The founders, of the company, Heinz-Theo Ebbert (†1990) and Herbert Holtgreife, developed the prototype of the first folding facade which was the basis on which the company has grown to the now internationally acting enterprise and worldwide market leader for folding glass facades and balcony glazing. The number of employees has increased from an initial figure of 13 to 460 worldwide.
104 “Loft” apartments are fitted with Solarlux aluminium folding façades
The exclusive residential project “Boston“ at the Eastern waterfront of Amsterdam is a prime example of the successful adaptive re-use of existing building fabric and the modern refurbishment of derelict industrial buildings. In the course of last year old empty warehouses were turned into luxury “Loft” apartments with modern facilities and charming views onto the harbour and the close-by old City. Kitchens, bathrooms, sitting and bedrooms are open plan so that residents can arrange the inner layout in a flexible manner by means of partitioning walls.
