DESIGN FLEXIBLE GLASS FACADES WITH SLIDING SYSTEMS

Designing flush-mounted glass facades with flexible opening and closing is often challenging, especially on the upper floors of a building. It is hard to find a single system that meets the more demanding structural requirements and combines this with aesthetic aspects and the requisite protection from noise, wind and weather. The SL 23 sliding system fulfils precisely this requirement. A transparent, all-glass system, it possesses all the technical features required for optimum use as flexible facade glazing on high-rise buildings and upper floors, such as anti-lift and anti-drop devices.

A SOLITARY HYBRID

The Île de Nantes is an island located in the city centre of Nantes, France. Creating a building with its head in the clouds and the bustle of the city at its feet is a challenge for any architect. The project: the “Imbrika” new build, referred to by its architects as a “hybrid” concept. They needed a flexible solution that could provide protection from the wind without impairing the visual impact of the high-quality balconies in any way. They decided on the SL 23 balcony glazing. The system’s sliding elements are perfect for use on high-up floors, and also offer protection from the weather and noise.

WIND LOAD TEST

Designing glass fronts with flexible opening and closing options represents a challenge in terms of engineering, especially regions that require a high resistance to wind loads such as storms, gales or even hurricanes are particularly demanding. We have subjected our SL 23 sliding system to a limit load of 7,000 Pa (approx. 380 km/h).
